Cadillac Ranch- Home to Podcamp 2011

Just like Christmas, it’s here and gone before you know it and leaves you looking forward till next year. Podcamp was different for me this year. Why? I volunteered during the event. Having been to Podcamp last year and Barcamp in the fall, I felt that it was time to return the favor that these great events had bestowed upon me. What exactly that entailed, I wasn’t so sure about, but I was going to do whatever I could to make the event enjoyable for someone else.

My wife called me during the day and asked if I was having fun, and I responded that it was interesting. She got worried that I wasn’t enjoying myself after I had been looking forward to this, but I told her that it was a different experience helping out.

How Quickly Things Change

16 Mar

I almost don’t know where to begin. Things happened so fast that I still feel like I am reeling from it halfway across the planet. Of course I am speaking of the recent tragedies in Japan. Having family and friends over there, I am in a constant sense of concern for their safety; not that I can do anything about it from where I am at.

Tried to write out my thoughts, but that didn’t work. Ended up recording some audio instead.

Beginning of a good day

So the day is finally here! I have lifted the social networking iron curtain to blog from the event. Will update as the day permits. Should be a good experience.

*UPDATED 3/27

I realize it’s been a few weeks since this occurred, but life has been busy. Sadly this was put on the back burner because of it. So let’s recap the day.

This was the first event like this that I had ever been to, so I had no idea what to expect. I was happy to say that I was very pleased with the whole thing. The only downer was that the video session didn’t happen. Things happen. I’ve always been chided by my wife for having too many gadgets on my person or wherever I go: camera, phone, laptop, etc. I have to say though that I felt ‘under-dressed’ technology wise when it came to this crowd. I’d never seen so many geeks in one place before! It was quite refreshing to know that I am not alone in the city of Nashville.

I brought along my laptop, Nikon D90 and a FlipHD to record the sessions. Remember what I said about being under-dressed? There were people with video cameras on tripods, microphone recorders, cameras, bloggers doing live casts and the list goes on and on. The sessions were encouraged to be shared and people were taking full advantage of it to the utmost degree. I was thoroughly impressed to say the least.

The majority of the sessions that I went to during the day were based on WordPress. I’m just starting to learn the way of WordPress, so I decided that this would probably be a good starting point to jump in and learn to swim. One of my teachers, Mitch Canter, had a very informative session on how to use WordPress for anything. I believe that that session had the most people signed up for it over all the other sessions. I was not disappointed one bit and got a lot out of it. Sadly, I have not been able to take advantage of all the stuff I learned due to school and work taking up most of my free time. Once the semester is over, or at least the major projects are out of the way, I can sit back and revisit the photos and videos I took and begin to digest what I learned.

New Year, New Me?

07 Jan

Another year has come and gone and we are all a little wiser. Everyone always make resolutions that are for the most part, unobtainable, at least to the degree of success that we envision. Just like everyone else, I have made my list out and plan to follow it. What I am doing though is sharing it and asking for support. Should I start to falter and fall off the horse, I would hope someone would offer a kick in the ass or a kind word of encouragement to keep me going. As you can see by my desk on a recent FB upload, my office is in less than pristine condition. Cluttered desk=cluttered mind. So for the sake of my sanity and upcoming semester, I’m taking a week off to get myself in the right frame of mind. Today is my day to layout the framework for next weeks marathon GTD session, as well as the upcoming semester. Will it all get done? Who knows. But if I plan things out right, I’ll be a lot better off than I am now.
