A Message for the Masses

09 Jun

Day 10 of the #Trust30 writing project- What is burning deep inside of you? If you could spread your personal message RIGHT NOW to 1 million people, what would you say?
I lived. Have you?

**UPDATED 6/10/11

Ok. That was a cop out response. It was late and the day and I hadn’t given it any thought after getting off work. So what would my message be. Really.

You hear people spouting about going to the live scene of music and “support local music” all the time. My message is…

Support you local fast food!

Let me clarify that.

When I say fast food, I’m not referring to your McDonalds down the street or Taco Bell, I’m referring to your local eateries, food stalls, etc. Homegrown businesses that make food fast, not fast food. Good local food at usually decent prices that isn’t mass produced on an assembly line. Granted, I have been an avid fast food (the bad one) for years. After a heart attack scare panic attack I had several years ago, I have only had one hash brown since then, and that was under duress. With a son on the way, I want to be around for him, so I have taken it upon myself to start walking the healthier and local path that is real fast food. It’s not always about quantity people. It’s about quality, and that’s what you are getting when you eat local. Spread the word and the wealth and eat locally!

For you that live in the Greater Nashville Area, here are a list of great places and trucks to eat at. Enjoy one on me!

Oh to Dream…

Day 6 of the #Trust30 writing project- What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to accomplish but have been afraid to pursue?

If there is one thing I do, it’s come up with ideas. I have had so many far fetched ones that I could probably write a book about all of them. But what is lacking that makes them far fetched rather than possibilities? Guts. Balls. Cahones.(sp) Courage. The ability to take that step off the edge and go for it without hesitation. Without taking that first step, all it is is a dream and nothing more.

As I mentioned, I have lots of ideas, but this is the latest one to enter the gray matter. Opening a food truck. Not just any food truck, but an izakaya food truck. I wanted to be the first Japanese cuisine food truck in Nashville, but I apparently missed the boat on that one. A few weeks back, when I was just graduating from college, I took a weekend down at the Redneck Ryokan (another dream) and wrote down everything that came to mind as I started to brainstorm the concept, menu, issues, etc. It was nice to get all these items down on paper before I forgot them. Sadly, I haven’t looked at it since; not even to scan it into Evernote. So why the hesitation?

It’s just a dream. It’s never going to happen. I don’t have the money to do this. What if it failed. blah blah blah wah wah wah

Self Doubt.

The first thing to do would be to come up with a business plan. Treatments I can do.

Money. Where am I going to find funding? Business partners? Parents?

I’m sure that if I sat down and consulted with some people, then it might be doable. But that’s what this exercise is all about, tackling those fears head on and finding out why they’re fears to begin with. Will this ever come to fruition? Only time will tell. Until then I can keep dreaming and never stop believing.
